Located in a privileged area close to the Ciudad Universitaria, in the district of Moncloa, this project is the result of the remodelling of an old hospital and will convert the building into a fantastic student residence with 250 rooms and common areas.
Syllâbus will carry out the implementation of this student residence consisting of 250 rooms with private bathroom and common areas designed in detail: swimming pool, garden, fitness area, common kitchens, coworking space and multifunctional and relaxation spaces.
Whenever we talk about rehabilitation, there is a degree of uncertainty that follows the project from its generation to its construction; and an intense technical work during the whole process, far superior to a new building project. The building, built in phases over the last century, had 3 different bodies in form and style. The idea of covering them with a common criterion seemed inevitable, an outer layer that would not be too destructive in order to fit in with the conservative Chamberí neighbourhood. The interior of its courtyards and spaces, however, should speak of the freshness of its promoter, Syllabus, and of the function it was to house: a student residence.
The winning idea was with us from the very beginning of the project, and it was the concept of the break, the fracture. The building looks like a great mass of colours that is breaking out of its shell, fracturing it and eliminating it from the inside out.
The outer skin is resolved with an undulating metal façade that emphasises the changes of planes and the inner skin shows a profusion of colour that wants to capture the enthusiasm and energy of its users. The result is a disruptive and coherent building despite the dichotomy that generates it.

Whether you're an ordinary pedestrian or the most renowned architect globally, there's an undeniable allure to the morning sun streaming through your window or the mesmerizing forms sculpted by light filtering through various elements. It's a moment charged with vitality and significance, transcending mundane routines. Our aim is to imbue every resident of this dwelling with that same sense of wonder and purpose. Hence, we've devised a solution in the form of a perforated skin that dynamically adjusts, opening and closing in harmony with the sun's orientation and the desired interplay between interior and exterior vistas.
This innovative approach not only embraces the natural elements but also ensures that each inhabitant experiences the evolving canvas of light and shadow, fostering a profound connection with their surroundings. The interplay of light and space becomes a narrative, shaping experiences and enriching daily life within the residence. From the quiet contemplation of dawn's gentle rays to the dramatic hues of sunset, each moment becomes a testament to the symbiotic relationship between architecture and nature, elevating the mundane into moments of transcendence.

The design of this residential complex in the heart of Malaga's historic center is a tribute to the city's rich architectural heritage. Drawing inspiration from the traditional residential compounds that dot the urban landscape, our building reimagines the essence of communal living within a contemporary framework.
At the heart of the design lies a central courtyard, serving as the focal point around which the rooms are arranged. This courtyard not only infuses the living spaces with natural light and ventilation but also fosters a sense of community and connection among the residents. It harks back to the intimate squares and courtyards found in traditional Spanish towns, providing a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling cityscape.
One of the crowning features of the residence is its rooftop, offering breathtaking vistas of the majestic cathedral that dominates the skyline. This panoramic view serves as a constant reminder of the city's rich history and cultural significance, inviting residents to pause and reflect on their surroundings.
In addition to the individual living quarters, the residence boasts a plethora of communal amenities designed to enrich the lives of its inhabitants. From coworking rooms and study areas to play spaces and gyms, every aspect of communal living has been carefully considered. These amenities are strategically located on the ground floor, seamlessly integrating with the outdoor spaces and promoting interaction among residents.
Furthermore, an audiovisual room provides a space for residents to come together for screenings, presentations, or cultural events, further enhancing the sense of community within the building.
By blending modern comforts with timeless architectural elements, our residence embodies the spirit of Malaga's historic center while offering a contemporary living experience tailored to the needs of today's urban dwellers. It stands as a testament to the enduring allure of tradition and the limitless possibilities of innovation in architectural design.
